Why you should drink watermelon juice post workout

Watermelon juice
A good workout is also about recovery as much as it is about the activity. Your post workout nutrition is particularly important to replenish fluids, electrolytes and glucose that were lost during the exercise According to nutritionist Priya Kathpal, watermelon juice is the perfect drink to refuel your body post workout. You can also drink lauki juice instead of protein shake post workout.
How does it work?
  • The natural sugar present in watermelon will help restore glycogen that is lost during the workout. According to Priya, the drink is especially good after intense workouts as it will restore all the sugar that is drained.
  • Watermelon contains amino acids that can help your muscles recover quickly and efficiently after a workout.
  • The fruit is filled with antioxidants that can speed up your body’s fat burning process by boosting your metabolism.
  • Being rich in fibre, it is excellent to curb your appetite and prevent hunger pangs. It also helps clear your colon (the large intestine) of excess waste.
  • The high fluid content in watermelon makes it a natural thirst quencher. Priya says, ‘Watermelon juice has an extra edge over other fruit juices as it is very hydrating too.’
How to prepare?
  • Chop half a watermelon and discard the seeds.
  • Add the chopped watermelon slices to a blender and juice it.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper (red pepper) and salt to it. (Cayenne pepper works well in controlling your appetite).
  • You can also add some mint leaves to enhance its taste.
